AmeriCorps Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is a free program that helps older Durham residents find a fulfilling volunteer opportunity that matches their skills and interests. Opportunities range from tutoring to gardening, food transport, tax preparation and more. RSVP also provides mileage reimbursement, volunteer insurance and other benefits. It's a great resource to meet new friends and make a difference in the Bull City.

Sarah Cline

A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill from Charlotte, NC, Sarah is excited to work with an amazing crop of RSVP volunteers to increase the capacity of local agencies while responding to needs of Durham citizens. Sarah is a former high school teacher and is always excited to chat about education! When not at TNVLC, she enjoys cooking, exploring new restaurants and coffeeshops, going to concerts, and playing pickleball.

Meet the RSVP Advisory Council

Patricia Hemingway-Smith is an experienced educator and committed public servant. She retired as the Human Resources Director at Durham Technical Community College. She holds a M. A. in Education from NC Central University. Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors at both the Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center and the Moving Forward Carolina Foundation.
Elisabeth Harper Wiener's work life was spent in brand management for major consumer goods companies like P&G, RJR Nabisco, Nestle, and Pepsi. Now, she's become a serial volunteer being active on Durham’s Housing Appeals Board, Industrial Facilities and Pollution Control Financing Authority, The Sheriff’s Community Advisory Board, Durham Arts Council Board, The Rotary Club of Durham Board, and now the Advisory Council for RSVP!
David Jarmul volunteers actively with several local organizations. A Durham resident, he was previously the Associate Vice President for News and Communications for Duke University. His recent book, Not Exactly Retired: A Life-Changing Journey on the Road and in the Peace Corps, highlights older Americans who serve as volunteers.
Jason Peace is the Executive Director for Meals on Wheels of Durham, Inc. (MOWD) where he is challenged to develop and lead organizational initiatives involving all constituents and the broader community. Jason received his Master’s in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2011, along with a certificate in nonprofit leadership. He grew up in Durham and attended Northern High School.
